This refers to report, "Govt to get Rs 2,262 cr tax via black money window" (October 2), watching the half-hearted efforts of the United Progressive Alliance and the National Democratic Alliance governments, the outcome was not a surprise leave alone a shock. We were the last to wake up to sign and act on the UN charter on corruption and black money giving a long rope for people to erase the money trail and launder the ill-gotten money. Successive governments have been obsessed with foreign direct investment, foreign private investment and foreign portfolio investment etc, that have opened the field wide to allow entry of unaccounted for money. The government should bring in more transparency in all deals, including corporate deals also, to curb the generation of black money. But the money stashed from 1947 cannot be brought in through such soft acts/laws; they need harsher actions.
