Letters: No central meddling

With reference to "Avoiding reform" (May 30), as regards land acquisition, the editorial seems to indicate that an "all-India template" would make it easier to do business. But one feels that kind of faith in the higher wisdom of the Centre as compared to the state governments seems misplaced.

There isn't much rationale to presume that politicians and bureaucrats sitting in New Delhi can come up with a template that can work equally well across this vast and diverse country.

On the contrary, letting the states come up with their own ways of improving ease of business will make them compete with each other to attract more business, thereby helping achieve faster growth.

Though soon after Independence a strong Centre may have been the need of the day, time is now ripe for the Centre to step back and let the states manage themselves more and more.
