Given what they’ve done with the country, it’s hardly surprising that the political class has made a mess of India’s sports as well. No one can say that the fiasco with the pitch was something that just happened — the Delhi and Districts Cricket Association (DDCA) had got enough reports on the pitch being of very poor quality. Despite that, however, the DDCA did not take enough precautions and the result was there for all to see.
Is it any surprise that the head of the DDCA is none other than a politician, BJP leader Arun Jaitley?
Without exception, most sports that have politicians at the top have been riddled with problems. While cricket is raking in lots of money, thanks to the T20 format for which the BCCI and its politician heads deserve credit, there is little doubt the selection process for cricketers is completely politicised.
