It is not clear whether our MPs will be satisfied with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s explanation for the extraordinary joint statement signed with Pakistan at Sharm el-Sheikh. After years of holding that no talks could go on with Pakistan since it indulged in acts of terror against India, the Prime Minister was quick to let them off the hook and even admit that India had a role in stirring up trouble in Balochistan.
This is the price that India is paying for becoming a close ally of the United States which has, once again, decided to back the Pakistan state.
The pity, however, is that the main Opposition party offers no solution either, apart from the periodic wringing of hands from its chief.
