The iPad, within two months, has already sold a million pieces, and its international launch took place just a few days ago. Given the way Apple has changed the phone and computing industry, it is surprising to see you eulogising Nokia (“Doors and windows”, May 27). Nokia is, undoubtedly, as you have said, one of the most globalised companies we have seen, with its home market comprising just around 1 per cent of total sales. But, just because a company is globalised doesn’t mean it is a great one.

Just go and visit the market or take notes from the people around you, and you’ll see that Nokia’s market share has fallen tremendously. The market has been overtaken by HTC and Samsung’s Corby. You may say this is a temporary fad, but successful companies come out with new phones to satisfy new cravings from time to time.

Nokia needs to urgently review its strategy. Even the staid Blackberry is now trying to position itself as a phone for the trendy. Maybe Nokia needs some rebranding as well.
