Your edit page usually carries balanced and meaningful analyses so I was disappointed by your partisan edit (“A reassuring address,” August 16) that heaped praise on our prime minister and his Independence-day speech. To me, it was sad that the entire speech should have been devoted to corruption and a defence against Anna Hazare’s attack.
You have also lauded Singh’s role in giving India consistent growth, whereas we know that the general economic scene favoured India’s forward march. There has been widespread economic mismanagement and galloping inflation. Corruption is at its peak and the charges are leading us to the doorstep of the PM’s office. The edit speaks ill of Hazare’s draft and includes just a small castigation of the government for not handling the situation well. Sir, you are out of step with the nation’s mood.
