This refers to "Father's day" (February 17). A father's role in the upbringing of children should be encouraged, be it someone who is enjoying marital bliss or a non-custodial father in case of an estranged marriage or divorce. Attention needs to be focussed on non-custodial parents. Why is there such media hype on Mother's day or Father's day? A parent with the custody of the child, who denies him/her of the love, access or affection of the non-custodial parent, is the worst form of emotional cruelty and violation of human rights. The UK is mulling the Cindrella Law to counter this kind of cruelty. A child needs love and affection of both the parents. The UK is also planning to bring a new law on shared parenting which India should also think of.
