This refers to Surinder Sud’s article “India’s herbal hitch” (June 28). It seems that there is a general loss of interest in therapeutic plants and herbal medicines among people. Earlier people would grow many common medicinal plants in their kitchen gardens but this practice has, now, almost disappeared. Efforts should be made to create awareness about healing plants among the general public too and not just farmers. Perhaps special parks for herbal plants can be encouraged. In addition to this, adequate research and development support should be given to encourage farming of healing plants.
