This refers to the PM’s meeting with select editors as reported in your newspaper (“The buck stops with me,” June 30). Dr Manmohan Singh, not surprisingly, continues to rely on clichés that have long outlived their political utility. It was expected that a prime minister of Dr Singh’s academic qualification would give a fresh perspective and new ideas for tackling various problems that are affecting governance and economy.
Instead of complaining about widespread cynicism and accusing the media of being the “accuser, prosecutor and judge”, the PM should have addressed the causes of public anger triggered by mis-governance and rising disparity. Little wonder, then, that the vacuum created by his silence on these issues is being filled by hare-brained activism by the so-called “civil society”.
