For the last 17 years, Nitish Kumar was aligned closely with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and even continued with it after the Gujarat riots. Now, for his own reasons, when Kumar has given a slip to the BJP, he is being called "secular" by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. It is not for nothing that former Finance Minister Yashwant Sinha said sometime back that Singh is an "underrated politician and an overrated economist".
