Geetanjali Krishna's column "Bring the M word out of the closet" (People Like Them, April 19) is an eye-opener. It has become fashionable to talk about women's security and empowerment. You can see candlelight marches and women activists on national TV at the drop of a hat. But the delivery of health-related services in villages, small towns and remote areas is the critical need. Preventive health care, awareness about personal hygiene and the emancipation from orthodox dogmas should be the priority of the government and NGOs till proper health services are provided to the poor and deprived sections of the population. This is where the "My Pads" could play a key role in benefitting a major portion of the women folk. On the logistics side, the work can be fruitfully executed in prisons by female convicts and women in orphanages and destitute homes.
