Apropos the report “With the BJP’s leadership now decided, one man stands tall” (January 24), only the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP’s) veteran L K Advani could firmly withstand the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) pressure for Nitin Gadkari’s second term as the party president. Although Rajnath Singh, too, is RSS’ choice, the huge difference is that Gadkari’s corruption charges could have been an opportunity for the Congress – facing flak on the issue of corruption – to embarrass the BJP. Singh has a clean slate on corruption but not an impressive report card on performance. He is faced with too many challenges — the biggest being the 2014 general elections. On a news channel, he confidently declared the National Democratic Alliance would form the government in 2014. While only time would tell how far he succeeds, he is advised to concentrate more on deeds, less on words and lesser on rhetoric.
