Letters: Reform all sports

The Supreme Court-appointed committee headed by former chief justice of India Justice R M Lodha has suggested far-reaching and drastic changes in the country's cricket administration. The committee's recommendations, including fixing the tenure of office-bearers, setting an age limit for contesting elections, prohibiting ministers from becoming office-bearers, bringing the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) within the ambit of the Right to Information Act and preventing members from holding more than one position in the BCCI and state associations, are laudable.

Similar reforms are required in other sports bodies, as politicians have been occupying influential posts there, too, for decades.

The situation prevailing in our sports bodies has led most people to believe that India is perhaps the only country where inefficiency, lethargy, incompetence and non-performance are rewarded.
