With reference to Vinayak Chatterjee’s article, “Is India under-investing in infrastructure?” (April 11), despite infrastructure being pivotal for economic growth, the sector is under-fed in terms of investment.

Sluggish flow of private investment is a setback for growth of the sector. The private sector, burdened with mounting debt and diminishing returns, is worsening the asset quality of the banking sector and negatively impacting the growth of credit expansion.

The government should remove persisting stresses in the banking sector as well as stresses in the private sector through speedy execution of reforms.
