Business Standard New Delhi

“Going off track” (March 30) is a result of the railway ministry being allocated to politicians who want to straddle political ambition both in state and at the Centre and, in the process, become part-time ministers. This is greatest disservice to ministries, like the Railways, that play a vital role in economic growth.

Even as the Railways might take pride in operating the Rajdhani Express and the Shatabdi Express, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) has said that on more than half of the occasions, these prestigious trains have not reached their destinations on time. This is largely due to introduction new trains without suitable infrastructure.
