This refers to ‘Link Air India bailout to performance, says govt’ (July 28) by Surajeet Das Gupta. The government has done the right thing as far as the Air India bailout package is concerned. Instead of just handing over the money to the ailing airline, the government has decided to link the cash inflows to pre-negotiated deliverables.
This is the model that the government needs to adopt for other PSUs as well. The only danger here is that, after the media glare is over, the government will relax the criterion and give the money to Air India. This must be avoided.
