This refers Sunita Narain’s article “Land is livelihood, don’t forget” (July 18). We seem to be forgetting that in a democracy, everyone has the freedom to pursue his or her choice of livelihood. So, if a landholder desires to continue holding onto his land, he or she should not be forced to part with it, even for a supposed wider public interest. Also, one can’t help wondering why much of the land that already belongs to the government and public sector undertakings can’t be utilised in a better way for public purposes and industrial growth.
