Now that Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd (BSNL) has revised the STD tariff for its landline network, landline subscribers can enjoy STD calls to any landline phone at local rates (“STD calls from BSNL landlines at local rates”, December 1). But this is not enough if BSNL wishes to retain customers. It will also have to make landline calls to mobile phones cheaper, since almost everyone has a mobile these days. Making an STD call from a landline to a mobile phone number is still expensive. Also, callling from a landline to a local mobile number is more expensive than the STD call rates announced today.
Also, if BSNL is serious about retaining landline customers, it should improve its track record of customer service — I am awaiting a replacement to a faulty instrument for over two months now.
