Indian industrialists are by nature sycophants and they go and prove it again each time. It was understandable for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to ask industry not to lay off people. After all, this is election time and, apart from the issue of terror and inflation, the last thing the PM wants is to give the BJP another issue to go to the people with. But why did Indian industrialists have to promise they would not lay off anyone? Do they have a duty to the Prime Minister first or a duty to their shareholders?
