Sunil Jain has written a hard-hitting column (“Give us a break, Mr Parekh”, June 21), that places the blame clearly where it lies. It is one of the few well-argued pieces that take on the powerful lobby of industrialists who, like politicians, come together to defend their own interests, whether right or wrong or even if they are on opposite sides of the fence. This is guild mentality.
Deepak Parekh’s reasons for supporting Keshub Mahindra do not hold water — just as Justice Ahmadi’s do not. Has anyone asked whether anything stopped Mahindra or the many independent directors of the corporate sector from taking their generous salary whether they earned it or not?
As long as the going is good, all is fine, but the moment things go wrong, these people go scurrying for cover. Does anyone remember what the directors of Satyam said just a year ago?
