This refers to the article “Same old story in Bengal” (September 11). One can draw a parallel between the situation in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu where the Nanguneri special economic zone (SEZ) in Tirunelveli district has been awaiting completion since 2001. The Nanguneri SEZ, which is being set up on 2,520 acres at the cost of Rs 630 crore, will create employment opportunities for around 70,000 youths in the southern districts of Tuticorin, Tirunelveli and Kanyakumari. But the project has faced many hitches because the project developers, on many occasions, went back on their promise of completing it. Leaving industrial projects half way sends wrong and negative signals. So, it is the responsibility of state governments to ensure that such projects are completed in the due time frame.
