It is disappointing to note that Business Standard is taking a negative stand on many issues. The present one is on mergers and acquisitions (“Hobbled by regulation”, April 20). It is not clear what is so special about the Indian economy that makes market domination a non-issue. It is strange to say that “large corporations often create markets that encourage competitors to enter.” If there are more sectoral monopolies when MRTP Commission was in force, it only indicates the need to strengthen the Competition Commission of India (CCI), not to close it.
We don’t find any sector regulators manned by industry specialists as stated by you. We find every institution, except the judiciary, manned by bureaucrats. You could have suggested alternatives for that instead of finding fault with CCI.
