This refers to Sunita Narain's column "The politics of particles" (Down To Earth, February 10). A slight shift in focus can lead to the introduction of solar cookers in rural areas as a clean and sustainable means of energy. What we need is grass-roots introduction in girl's education with practicals to maintain and use solar cookers for local food preparation. The use of fossil fuel and biomass for cooking should only be kept as a last resort.
