In “Class matters” (May 19), you say “the dropout rate among children in the Schedule Caste and Schedule Tribe category is still high”. The effective implementation of the mid-day meal scheme has reduced dropout rates considerably, and should be implemented everywhere. It could be improved on by providing breakfast, if needed. However, it is not enough to eliminate dropouts, there should be schemes to give those in the system impetus and help for higher education.
