This refers to Devesh Kapur, T V Somanathan and Arvind Subramanian's article "Land-shackled - II" (July 22). It stops short of suggesting that real estate (at least residential units) should cease to be regarded as an asset. Shelter is one of the basic necessities and it should not be an asset susceptible to hoarding, speculation, profiteering and so on that keep it out of the reach of the common man. Can you imagine water, food or air being regarded as assets?
