Letters: Tapping tourism for jobs

Image

Business Standard New Delhi
This refers to Rahul Jacob's column "The jobs emergency" (Caveat India, May 29). Modi is being considered a leader who will bring about prosperity by creating more jobs and an overall improvement in the economy. Jobs can be created in the country by paying attention to infrastructure, encouraging labour-intensive industries and tourism. We should also change our educational system by producing more skilled workers than merely graduates. I would also like to mention that the qualifications of a minister (read Smriti Irani) hardly matter as long as they are willing to work for the nation.

Tourism is a flourishing industry and with proper maintenance of our heritage sites, we can make this industry feasible. Further, the small scale and cottage industries that produce traditional Indian food and handicraft around these sites should also be encouraged.
