This refers to the article “About LIMH, BBR and life skills” by Alokananda Chakraborty (“Rules of the game”, July 24). Rules and regulations should keep pace with the growth of technology or else it could have worrying ramifications.
For example, the US’ proposed wiretap law seems to be an effort to prevent the threats posed by fast-growing technology. The Indian government has been demanding for long that BlackBerry maker Research in Motion allow access to BlackBerry’s closed user group traffic. And the reason India insists on being allowed access to BlackBerry data is that technology like mobile phones and the internet comes in handy for terrorists.
The Indian government and the country’s IT sector should come forward to find the best possible way to deal with the threats the growing technology poses to the country’s security and citizens’ privacy.
