Letters: The Opposition question

Business Standard New Delhi
This refers to Bharat Bhushan's article "The future shape of the Opposition" (June 5). The Opposition can coalesce in one of the two (or both) ways - (i) a strong Left of Centre leader emerging around whom all the non-Bharatiya Janata Party political parties coalesce; (ii) the situation developing in a way that drives ordinary people in sufficient numbers to come on the streets. The first possibility seems remote, given the current lot of leaders. As regards the second possibility, it may be too premature to hazard a guess. As of now, the Narendra Modi-led government seems to be making sufficiently pro-people noises which, if followed up with matching action on the ground, will obviate the need for people to come together to agitate against the government.
