This refers to Subir Gokarn's column "Strategy and structure" (Muddy Waters, August 25). Given the changes that have taken place in the last two decades, the role of the Planning Commission has diminished to a large extent, leading to its recent demise. I think the emergence of a strong Prime Minister's Office will replace the Planning Commission in terms of strategic planning, with long-term forecasting and also helping the plethora of ministries in overcoming their silo approach in policy-making and its execution.
