This refers to Shankar Acharya's column "Looking back (2014) and forth (2015)" (A Piece Of My Mind, January 8). The country's prospects do not look good because the Sangh Parivar is so active that it has become a major hurdle to economic development. The National Democratic Alliance is increasingly finding it hard to ignore them and secular people around the world are wondering why Prime Minister Narendra Modi has not been able to silence them. If he cannot silence his supporters how is he going to deal with other constraints?
For India, internal shocks combined with external problems are causing more issues for sustainable economic development. It will be nice if the Sangh Parivar takes a holiday for the next five years and stops talking about Hindutva in public.
