This refers to the editorial “Your move, Mr Singh” (May 15). Air India needs a professional management to run itself profitably. In spite of the heavy rush, the airline suffers losses. It is no longer a luxury even for the middle class to travel by Air India.
The real reason for Air India’s financial losses must be scrutinised by financial experts: is it low fares or high operational costs; high taxes or freebies for ministers; or wasteful and avoidable expenses?
Since the government has made all possible efforts to improve Air India and failed, it would do better to sell off the airline to the private sector.
