In his article "Will 'Make in India reform trade, too?" Jayanta Roy makes sound points on trade reform (February 8). First, the flip side of better trade facilitation is proactive trade promotion.

The current funds crunch has hit the 'Make in India' marketing actions of Indian embassies around the world. Second, linking with global and regional supply chains calls for work on little steps - container movement on roads and rail, customs, ports and so on. Can we attend to such levels of detail? Third, 'strategic regionalism' has so far been notable for its absence in our policy-making, in the Ministry of External Affairs and across the government. How can we 'Act East' if we remain confused on if and how to connect with China? As a Vietnamese scholar told a Look East event in Shillong two years back: you talk about south-east Asia, but you ignore the giant to your east and north.
