The idea of burning copies of Holy Quran on the anniversary of 9/11 is simply appalling. Such an act will do irreparable damage to the relationship between the Christian and Islamic worlds that have witnessed much distrust and prejudice in the last three decades. At the same time, building a mosque at ground zero too would also hurt the sentiments of all those who lost their lives at the World Trade Centre nine years ago. Both the acts are classic cases of the American ideas of freedom and liberty being taken for a ride. It’s time we condemned religious intolerance and hatred emanating from any religious denomination in an unequivocal manner.
