The interview with Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board Chairman L Mansingh (‘We cannot regulate gas prices’, October 30) is frightening. The government sets up a regulator and goes out of its way to ensure it doesn’t have enough powers to do its job. It is well known that PSU firms are passing on their inefficiency costs to consumers — if the government notifies various petroleum products, then PNGRB will be in a position to regulate their prices.
