This refers to the report “CCI levies penalty of Rs 6,300 cr on 11 cement firms” (June 21). The impact of price cartelisation would have already been borne by the innumerable customers of the construction industry - home owners or small-time builders who would have paid a heavy retail price for cement bags. The hefty fine slapped by the Competition Commission of India has sent out the right signal apart from driving home the point that watchdogs and regulators of critical segments of the economy can no longer be taken lightly. Let us hope this trend continues to stem unfair trade practices in other business segments as well.
