This refers to the editorial “Welcoming Wen” (December 15). China considers India a powerful contender in the Asian region and its deliberate moves to keep the eastern and western borders on the boil are directed at weakening India’s focus on growth and political consolidation.
It remains to be seen whether India asks for more from China than what it can give during the negotiations — whether it is trade deficit or easing out tensions on India’s borders. The India’s prime minister would have to blend the country’s economic power and military assertiveness with tactful diplomacy to cooperate and compete with China.
