Letters: Why do courts step in?

Image

Business Standard New Delhi
With reference to the report, "Shift all matches out of Maharashtra by April 30, Bombay HC tells BCCI" (April 14), though the court's decision is welcome - as it is linked with the plight of drought-hit people in the state - I cannot help but wonder why courts have to intervene in matters that are best taken care of by the government.

The quantity of water that would have been used in the IPL matches in the state would not have solved the water crisis. But since the issue is a sensitive one, the decision has gone against the IPL.

It would likely be a logistical nightmare for the IPL organisers to shift the Maharashtra matches outside the state, arrange for travel and accommodation of players and staff anew and refund the cost of tickets to viewers.
