Letters: Why knock Hazare?

Business Standard New Delhi

This refers to your strongly-worded editorial “Hazare hazard” (April 6). It is a pity that Business Standard has not found favour with the rationale for Hazare’s fast. The introduction of the Lok Pal Bill has been a long-standing demand and is in the interest of the people.

The country has seen one scam after the other as corrupt authorities make money at the cost of the poor. It is, therefore, unfair of Business Standard to find fault with the move adopted by Hazare, which has otherwise found support from people from all walks of life. He has resorted to this extreme step because no acceptable and convincing solution to fight corruption has been forthcoming from the government. His only demand is to have an effective anti-corruption law. The initiatives to root out corruption from public life so far have not been convincing.

Pointing out some technicalities and objecting to the movement initiated by Hazare is least expected from a newspaper like Business Standard. The need of the hour is to find a lasting solution to increasing corruption and the means adopted by Hazare fully justify the ends.
