It is intriguing to learn that several banks are levying “cash handling charges” on cash deposits made by customers following the demonetisation move announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8. There is no rationale or moral justification for levying such charges in the present situation.
I, too, have become a victim of the imposition of such charges by Punjab National Bank. Does this not amount to wilful exploitation of account holders by banks? Will the Reserve Bank of India and/or the finance ministry look into the matter and come to the rescue of such account holders?
