This refers to the edit “The bitter sweet truth” (February 3). Decontrol will definitely help the sugar sector become more competitive and improve its productivity. The move will compel sugar co-operatives to implement cost-saving measures. However, the industry, like many others, is not known for self-discipline and there is some doubt in the minds of consumers whether the decontrol would benefit consumers.
