The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hosted a Diwali get-together for Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Delhi-based journalists, on Thursday. The event got off to an embarrassing start for a party that prides itself for its Hindi. A huge saffron-coloured banner that formed the backdrop to the dais where the PM was to sit had the spelling of Deepavali incorrect. A cut-and-paste job was undertaken to fix it before Modi arrived. A BJP leader pointed out how until 2006 all speeches of BJP members were written in English and then translated into Hindi.
