In a move to show loyalty and commitment for the party and its chief, Congress leaders in Chhattisgarh organised a protest against K S Sudarshan for his derogatory remarks against Sonia Gandhi. What they did not realise is that this demonstration of loyalty could fall foul of the law when the police lodged offences against some of them for burning an effigy of the former RSS chief. The Congress leaders met senior police officials and duly blamed them for pandering to the ruling BJP government. But in this instance the police authorities were well prepared. They told Congress leaders that the party hadn’t taken prior permission to burn the effigy and had, therefore, violated the law.
