The presence of Congress MP Naveen Jindal at the inauguration of the much awaited ‘Dreamliner’ of the Indian Airlines, along with aviation minister Ajit Singh left many surprised. A day after allegations were made against Jindal’s power company in connection with the Coalgate scam, some speculated that this was to show that the Congress completely backed Jindal, while others pointed out that of the politicians who had accompanied the civil aviation minister — the BJP’s Rajiv Pratap Rudy and Shahnawaz Hussain — Jindal alone was not a former aviation minister. It later emerged that Jindal was a member of the consultative committee on aviation. Since NCP’s Praful Patel (former aviation minister) did not attend the inauguration, thankfully for the UPA, Jindal was the sole representative of the Congress-led UPA government, accompanying the aviation minister.
