Blame it on the soaring sensex, the cricket matches in Pakistan, or just fatigue, but phase two of the Ambani spat just didn't get the same purchase as the last time around. While almost all English-language newspapers carried the story prominently on page one the day it broke, the same could not be said of the non-English language press. |
In the north, newspapers like Dainik Bhaskar carried the news prominently "" as the day's lead on the first day and as the third lead on the second. Rajasthan Patrika lead with the sensex touching 10,000, had India's Duckworth-Lewis defeat as the second lead and the Ambanis just below this. |
In Maharashtra, the Marathi press was, however, late in reacting to the latest developments in the Ambani brothers spat. None of the three major Marathi newspapers "" Sakal, Loksatta and Maharashtra Times "" carried any story in their Sunday issues even though some of the English papers (both pink and white) reported the development in their Saturday edition. All three Marathi papers gave front-page display to the development in their Monday editions but did not carry any follow-up stories on Tuesday. So far no Mumbai paper "" in English or Marathi "" has made any editorial comment on the Ambani brother's demerger problems and the subsequent patchup. |
In Andhra Pradesh, too, the sensex touching 10,000 eclipsed the event and the battle between the Ambani siblings was sidelined by the Telugu dailies. Though almost all the Telugu dailes broke the news, it was relegated to the inside pages. Eenadu reported, on Saturday, that the shares of the four demerged companies were transferred to Reliance shareholders and that the gas supply to various power projects under the Anil group were affected. On Sunday, Vaartha reported the attacks and counter attacks by the two groups. Andhra Jyothi carried the news, on Tuesday, of the legal notices issued by the Anil group and the allegation that the Mukesh group's moves amounted to transgressing of the power of attorney given during the settlement. Eenadu carried two briefs "" one on the legal notices issued by the Anil group, and the other on retaliation by the Mukesh group. Vaartha carried an article on Sebi's silence on the entire share transfer episode. |
