Non-vegetarian Gujarat?

Business Standard New Delhi
Even as the average Gujarati is known to be a vegetarian, things are surely changing. According to a recent report released by the animal husbandry department of Gujarat, the state's meat production rose threefold in the last 10 years. The biggest gain was in Vadodara, where meat production grew 11-fold in the 2004-05 to 2014-15 period. Ahmedabad's meat production increased seven-fold during the same period. At present, Gujarat has 38 registered slaughterhouses, which produced 3,400 tonnes of meat in 2014-15. The daily, Gujarat Samachar, was critical in its report on these figures. It said that looking at these statistics, it was clear the Bharatiya Janata Party, which garnered votes "in the name of Hindutva", was promoting non-vegetarianism in the state.
