The Trinamool Congress is not finding it easy to deal with rebel MP Kabir Suman. Suman’s resignation SMS to party chief Mamata Banerjee wasn’t enough to have him removed from Parliament — Suman needs to send the resignation in a prescribed format, on paper. A meeting to decide on Suman’s future was scheduled for Tuesday in Kolkata but has now been cancelled — the leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal assembly, Partha Chatterjee, however, insists the meeting had been called to discuss the forthcoming municipal polls in the state.
When asked about Suman, he said, “Nobody is above the party. There must be discipline.” As to why he had not yet been expelled, Chatterjee said, “This is not the media’s job. We know what to do when. We are on the job.”
