Own goal

A finance ministry official recently had to pay a price for a decision he took — literally. At his behest, the ministry had written to all government departments to review user charges in their respective areas, following which the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) revised its charges. When the official, staying in a CPWD house, received the notice to pay higher charges he said he “felt the pinch” from his “own efforts”.
