A recent event to educate government officials on the pitfalls of using pirated software indirectly showed why software piracy remains rampant in the corridors of power. The first half of the event involved a closed-door session for government officials. This was to be followed by the launch of a report and a press conference. The closed-door meeting overran the scheduled time, however, so the media walked in thinking the report was about to be launched. The striking point for journalists who entered the room was the thin attendance of government officials. So much so that the journalists outnumbered the government officials and ended up being part of the closed-door proceedings as well.
