At a road asset management system workshop last week, Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, tried to drive home the point that he was in no mood to put up with inordinate project delays due to vexatious official routine. He said government officials should not become obstacles in the way of development and suggested they either perform or opt for voluntary retirement. He added, "I don't mind rewarding non-performers, as long as they take VRS and stay at home."
