With the Chinese helping in the construction of a port in Sri Lanka, India has all but given up on being able to help the island state. The Sri Lankans, however, have turned to India on their own and asked for help in de-mining one of their ports, KKR, which falls in the country’s northern region. An Indian team led by Srinivas Naik, a director in the Ministry of Shipping, has left for Sri Lanka to view the site. The ministries of defence, shipping and external affairs are working together on this project. After the port is de-mined, India will also help Sri Lanka develop the port.
